review 1: Veteran Doctor Who writer Cornell may have jumped the Atlantic to scribe Marvel’s latest attempt to revive the Captain Britain character states-side, but he clearly is back in his element adding to the mythos of his homeland in this Secret Invasion tie-in. Although the art duties here were a bit spastic in flow – which I found both distracting and too un-cinematic for my aesthetic tastes – I did enjoy how Cornell tied in Captain Britain/Brian Haddock’s powers with the ancient powers of Brittannia and the Siege Perilous from Arthurian legend. And let’s not forget the cameos by Tink, Oberon, the Green Knight, and others from otherworld of Avalon. Not to mention a renegade Skrull who has assumed the guise of John Lennon these past several decades. Clever, that.Altho... moreugh this series was canceled after a mere year of publication, I am eagerly awaiting volumes two and three to discover what Cornell was able to do with Captain Britain mythos. (Perhaps next go around he could team-up with a certain iconic Time Lord? Perhaps the BBC could be convinced to lend the rights to its most profitable fictional property for short spell.)
review 2: Despite Secret Invasion being an extremely horrendous event, Captain Britain and the MI:13, a Secret Invasion tie-in, was the shinning example of what Secret Invasion should had been. The series had political elements that was missing in the main event, excellent characterizations, excellent conflicts and the solution/price for victory, and had a really good message that set up the conflict for the rest of the series. It is a shame that this series was cancelled, but it will remain in my heart until the series come back. less

A clever take on the secret invasion storyline. A truely British sensibility.
