Synopsis: The Search (Goodreads)

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life—a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He’s an intensely private wood artist and the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy named Jaws.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose blood lust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands . . .

Book Review : The Search

Nora Roberts books are my guilty pleasure. I read her books when I’m not in a mood to concentrate much or when just want to read romance and nothing else. When in need of complete love and romance you know whom to turn to now!

Let me tell you, I have read almost all the books written by Nora Roberts and only few I have read for a second time. I don’t keep any expectations when it comes to Nora’s books. I know she is done a fantastic job when it comes to romance and being a sucker for happily ever afters, I have very less to complain.

Fiona after losing her fiancee to a serial killer who kills her fiancee as a revenge as he failed to kill Fiona moves to Orcas in order to rebuild her life. She is dog trainer and also a part of canine search and rescue. Her best friends are her three Labs. Fiona with her dog training and volunteer work is not looking to start a serious relationship. But when Simon Doyle who has recently relocated to the Orcas Island for solitude everything changes. Simon a wood artist has acquired a pup and is looking for a dog trainer. Fiona and Simon’s path crosses and sparks fly. Both are like Chalk and Cheese, yet their chemistry is palpable. I adore Simon. He is so temperamental and cynical a complete opposite of a positive, cheerful Fiona.

If you are also a dog lover like me, you will fall even harder for four four legged darlings from the book. Jaws, Peck, Newman and Bogart. They keep the viewers entertained especially Jaws. You will just go “Aww” with Jaws and Simon’s scenes. They are so hilarious.

One more thing about the book which keeps the readers hooked is the light moments between the leads. Simon who is really very grouchy does have softer edges when it comes to Fiona. This is the first Nora Roberts Couple for whom I lost my heart to.

The bit of mystery/thrill element used in the story also kind off supports and Nora has done a more than Okay job with the thriller element. The reader might forget the book also has a serial killer in it.

The Search is very special book to me. This book is one exception where I actually read this book more than 5 times. I reason for me falling for this book might be very simple. I’m a dog lover. Or the reason for me to fall for the book might be a bit complex. I actually understood the pull of attraction between the main leads Simon Doyle and Fiona.

Looking for an put right romance where you wish you also had a boyfriend who is caring, protective and at the same time knows you can fight your own battles and all he has to do is stand beside you? Then this is the right book.

Go on and grab the copy and read it As soon as possible. The book might lag a bit with dog training and all but if you ignore that bit, the story is paced steadily and a quick read.

I give this book 4 stars.

  • “- What is it about you?” he repeated. “How does touching you calm me down and excite me at the same time? What is it you want from me? You never ask. Sometimes I wonder, is this a trick?” His eyes on hers, he backed her slowly toward the bed. “Just a way to pull me in? But it’s not. You’re not built that way.”
    – “Why would I want anything I had to trick out of you?”
    – “You don’t.” He lifted her, held, then laid her on the bed. “So you pull me in. And I end up being the one who’s lost.”
She framed his face with her hands. “I’ll find you.”
  • “Was he supposed to let Fiona cry on his shoulder now? He hated being the shoulder. He never knew what to say or do.
Pat, pat, there, there. What the f–k?”
  • “ ‘You don’t have any neuroses, which is annoying. You have quirks, which make up for it a little. But you’re mostly irritatingly stable and normal.’ ”
