review 1: Peter Thiel is one of the founding members of PayPal; you could attribute his success in that endeavor to luck. However, the fact that he and his founding team at PayPal, all went on to create new companies, all valued over a billion dollars after PayPal cannot be excused to chance. It's immediately clear that Thiel has a solid grasp on startups as soon as you start the book. He is the epitome of a syntopical reader, using the works of many great authors (Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Rand, and many more) and turning them into analogies to explain new or misunderstood concepts. Highly recommend to anybody with an MBA or management background who whats the basic tenants of their studies challenged. This isn't a book about just making a great startup, but about making a better fu... moreture.
review 2: Good read. While nobody's opinion of what will make a business succeed is definitively right, it's pretty cool to read someone who's successful in the business of predicting which businesses will succeed. There are pieces of this that are common sense, and pieces that are non-obvious. Some of the opinions come off as extreme, and some of the examples that Thiel uses seem like a bit of a stretch (or overly favoured to a few successful people he knows very well), but still, the points are well made and offer me great things to think about as I look to map it back to my own job. less

Quite good but a bit shallow on many crucial points.
