review 1: This book was rather disappointing. The good part:- great vulgarization of some psychological studies related to time (Zajonc, Bragh, Kahneman & Tversky...)- interesting analysis of different time perspectives and their effect on people; as well as their implications for policies, current laws, and measures such as drug prevention. The authors for instance make a point that anti-drug campaigns are adapted for futures - people which mostly adopt a future time perspective, and suggest that their effect could be improved if they were designed in ways that resonate with present-hedonistic people - which coincidentally are most targeted by drug addiction issues.- overall, a few interesting ideas on time perspectivesNow on to the bad part: I was expecting a good psychology book, ... moreyet the few interesting aspects mentionned above are surrounded by fillers and self-help statements of the very obvious kind. The self-help part of the book is really annoying if you were expecting a good introductory book on psychology: hearing that one should "embrace time" or "embrace the present" and "make the most out of the time that is given to us" is pretty useless and annoying.Summarizing: some great ideas lost among gibberish sentences and obvious self-help fillers.
review 2: My son-in-law Mike and my friend Cynthia HATED this book. Both very bright people, Mike disliked what he saw as an absolutist view not befitting scientists, while Cythia thought the authors wanted all of u to be like them--reflective well-heeled college professors with few real monsters from their past nor present threats living in Palo Alto. I enjoyed the book more than they did, perhaps because I have lower standards. I found the exercises for dealing with past unfortunate experiences helpful. The only blemish in the book for me was the story of Zimbardo picking upand throwing out the hitchhiker. To his credit, Zimbardo wove that experience into his present narrative, giving the hitchhiker credit. It's hard for me to get over Zimbardo's judging this boy. If you do the time perspective test on-line you would benefit almost as much as reading the book. I found his theory of suicide bombers interesting. less

The book helped me to understand and accept differences between people in the perspective of time.
