review 1: The last historical fiction novel I read was The Bloodletter's Daughter. While I enjoyed Daughter very much, I found I Am Livia to be much better written and more enjoyable. Daughter had some unnecessary scenes and suffered from some descent sized plot holes. I Am Livia suffers from no such problems. The plot is well written and executed. I also really enjoyed the first person perspective. In addition, the author created nice drama and suspense for events that happened well over 1000 years ago.
review 2: I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It's the story of Livia who ended up marrying Caesar Octavianus. The backdrop of Ancient Rome sets a great context for the story of this strong, independent, and smart woman. The writing style is very smooth an... mored she does a great job of character development, especially in regards to Livia. I can see why over 2600 people on Amazon have given this 4.5 stars! less
