review 1: Whoever owns the movie rights to this book could make a tremendous film. The story is set in an alternative Paris of Richelieu's time with dragons, wyverns and half-bloods. There is lots of intrigue, sword fights and rescues, but too often key plot points are told to us rather than come to us through the story. This is meant to be part of a series. Maybe having set the stage, the next book(s) will not have to fill in so much by expository.
review 2: Unashamed swashbuckling adventure with a great group of misfits and miscreants as the protagonists... The characters are defined in broad strokes by their actions. Pierre has depth to his writing even with this rollicking kind of adventure tale. I found I really liked the characters and like them even for their
... more faults. They would be the crew if the Firefly had this been a space western.... but it's a musketeer era novel and it's a great read. less

halverwege het boek was er nog steeds geen duidelijkheid in de personages.

Ok story and group dynamics, but clumsy characterisation and writing.

It was ok, but a bit too slow for me.

Dumas + dragons, what's not to like!
