review 1: This was a pretty good collection of witchy short stories. My favorite one was "Signatures of the Dead" by Faith Hunter. I'd never read anyhting by Hunter before, but I loved the atmosphere that was set by her writing style. And I instantly fell in love with her character Jane Yellowrock, even though she isn't even the main character of this story. I definitely intend to check out more of Hunter's books about Jane. The Harry Dresden story, "Last Call," by Jim Butcher was also really good. Once again, I'd never read a Harry Dresden book (although I'd of course heard of the series), but I really enjoyed the character. I like how he has a little bit of whimsy to him. Like he takes things seriously, but only to a point. The last story in the collection, "Dark Sins" by Jenna Macl... moreain was interesting. I think that her world of sexy vampires and both dark and light witches will definitely require more looking into by me. I have a feeling that Maclain's other books about the main character, Cin Craven, probably tell a lot of her back story and would make for a good read. The rest of the stories in this collection were good, but not great. They were definitely worth the read, mind you, they just didn't stand out the way the three I mentioned above did. I liked that Patricia Brigg's story "Seeing Eye" took place in the Seattle area, since I live there, but it didn't really seem to take full advantage of its setting the way that her Mercy Thompson books do theirs. "Bacon" by Charlaine Harris had a pretty awesome ending, but I haven't really been too terribly excited about her character Dahlia. Maybe if Dahlia had a stand alone book or two about her (as far as I know, she only exists in short stories), I could get more into her.Anyway, I definitely recommend this collection if you're into urban fantasy/paranormal books. I find that reading short story collections like this one is a really good way to introduce yourself to authors of the genre that you've never had the privilege of reading before, like I did with Faith Hunter this time around. I'm so excited to check out her stuff! :-)
review 2: I only read "The Seeing Eye" by Patricia Briggs. The short story actually focuses on an interesting pair of supporting characters from the Alpha and Omega series - the werewolf Tom and his mate (the white witch) Moira. Namely, it's a story about how they both met. We also learn how Moira lost her site. I liked that Briggs gave some more color to both characters, though I was left wanting much more - I feel like the short was more about the plot/action than flushing out the characters (which makes it hard for me to invest in the short much). But I did like it for what it was, and I'm sure any fan of the Alpha and Omega series would feel the same :) less

A nice collection of stories, although some of the authors were a little green for my taste.
