review 1: Born this is a nice book. It's about Dayton checking on his best friend's brother, Hart. Hart wants to jump his bones and dayton wants to wait and do things the human way. As I said it's a nice book. It just could have been great with some more efforts. Because seriously, a lot of things were just glossed over and others were just canned with no further announcement.*spoilers*First, there was this tidbit about one of Dayton's previous relationship. It went bad, really bad. At first, Dayton seems reluctant to start a relationship with Hart because of how bad it went before and then that tidbit is basically canned from the story. No mention whatsoever done later. Dayton miraculously got over the hurt of that previous relationship overnight with no deep thinking no support, ... morenothing. One minute he's hung up on it, the next it never happened. When I started reading, it looked like it was going to be different from other books. I mean the plot was gearing toward being totally based on the relationship with Hart trying to win over Dayton, the clash between a shifter view fo the mating bond and all it entailed and a human view on dating and such. It didn't happen. There was some attempt to raise drama with the problem of hart's father banishing him and forbidding him to approach anyone of the pride. It was incredibly glossed over. There was a little fight and then it was finished - all was well and good right again in the world. Like seriously, Hart was banished for ten years, TEN not one or two but TEN YEARS. After the fight, Hart became the alpha. Okay, that works. Maybe the story will go on to show how he adjust from being a lone shifter for ten years to be the leader of a number of people he hadn't seen for TEN YEARS. He doesn't know them, they don't know him. He's gonna lead them. But NO, the story basically just go on to say the pride bloomed under his leadership, his father didn't seem like he wanted to lead anymore and that's basically all. Yep, no deep conversation between father and son about the time they never met. The father after throwing his son out because he didn't want someone stronger than him in the pride, is just super happy to have said-son back, beating him, taking his position. Yeah right. And that thing with the best friend's boyfriend trying to kill Dayton so that Hart won't come back into town was so moronic. I know I shouldn't say that but damn it's true. First, it looks like it was just put there because there must be someone who wants to kill the main protagonist so let's take the boyfriend. He's a douche so let's get rid of him someway or another. That's the feeling I had. With that excuse that he wanted to kill Dayton so that Hart wouldn't come back so that he could become alpha was just so out of the blue. It felt just like what it was an excuse the author used to kill the guy and like I said to have someone wanted to kill the main protagonist. And yeah, it felt moronic. Because before that incident, there was absolutely no mention of the possibility even remote of Hart taking over the pride. The guy was happy where he was and had no wish to come back to the pride. He just wanted Dayton. Hart, the way he was described, seemed like the kind of guy who could talked Dayton into moving to his place. The boyfriend was mention only twice beforehand. Once to say that he's a golden god and the other to show that he was a douchebag. Mixed signals much? Well there was a lot of things that could have made that book better. Overall it was a nice book, not great but not bad. The writing was nice. All the little problems I mentioned before don't interfere with the reading. It's just that when you actually think about it, there are glaring right back at you.
review 2: Great novella. A destined mates story where they had to work for their happy ending. No falling straight into bed or insta-love, but two men who've known each other for years and are finally coming together as partners.I really liked Dayton, he was smart, funny, sexy, kind, and a good person. He stood up for himself and tried to be fair to Hart and consider both sides of the situation. He made Hart work for the mating, but he was never cruel or unreasonable about it, and did his share of work as well. He had to make some adjustments to the realities of being mated to a were-liger, but seemed to really try to accept all parts of his mate. Even though he grew up in the were-lion community he was always a human and kept in the dark about a lot. I loved that he didn’t hang on to his anger or resentment, but worked through his feelings and on the relationship.Hart was pure yummy. I felt for Hart and all that he had gone through. He had good reasons for leaving Dayton behind and even though he should have gone back for him sooner, I could see how he would be afraid to take the chance of more rejection. I loved that Hart listened to what Dayton said to him and respected his boundaries and needs, which you rarely see in Alphas’, in fiction. He valued Dayton and tried to put his mates needs and happiness before his own, which is so very sexy. These men are a sweet and loving couple. Both had to make changes and put in some work, but neither took the other for granted or made assumptions. I loved that there was no senseless misunderstandings or forced drama. I loved that they were given time to get to know each other as adults and seemed to truly like each other. When they finally come together it's loving and sweet and genuine and really hot.Reviewed by Nina less
