review 1: The beginning of this novel grabbed my attention because the story was being told from the perspective of each character (besides the children). I was impressed with the dialog tact from the perspectives, but my admiration soon fizzled after the first twenty pages...The plot started to drag on... then pick up interest with some (some) romance... then be concerned about other things... The plot then took twists (I felt) to keep the story going by the addition of more characters and problems. Unfortunately I have more "bugs" with this book than praise. For example, Dalton is convinced he has feelings for his mail-oder-bride and even thinks he might love her (pause for dramatic effect)... BUT! They barely say five sentences to each other before this "revelation" occurs ma... moreking the chemistry forced and semi-unbelievable. Over all, this work had potential (as most stories do) and structure in the beginning, but the plot slowly and boringly morphed into something I would not recommend reading...I would recommend the author, just not this book. P.S. The romance part felt like chocolate fudge on a corn muffin.. 'rich' 'guilt-laced' but mismatched with the innocent plot. It made me squirm in an uncomfortable way.
review 2: The Widowers Wife was a quick and easy read about a woman trying to start over by agreeing to be a mail order bride in the old west. It was over all a good book but took a minute to adjust when the author kept changing whose perspective the story was telling. After so much detail through the story explaining the different characters thoughts and feelings, I would have appreciated a more detailed ending to the story. less

Not the most well-written book, but I'm a sucker for sappy, cheesy, pioneer love stories.

3.5 I'm a complete sucker for any half-decent story about a mail order bride!
