review 1: This was a very informational and fun read. I never even knew the Mona Lisa was stolen in 1911, but now I do. This book presents accurate information in an interesting way. It was only about 220 pages, so the author could have gone into more detail, and she kept referring to Mona Lisa as "she", but other than those minor annoyances, this was a great read. It discusses how the Mona Lisa was stolen, the suspects, the painting's recovery, the theories as to why it was stolen in the first place, and even the creation of the famous painting. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.
review 2: This was a library book club read that I picked up and put down easily and was just a middling kind of book. It's a non-fiction that explores the evidence surround... moreing the two year disappearance of the famous Mona Lisa painting from the Louvre in 1911. There was quite a large section on Picasso that I DID NOT enjoy and a rather entertaining alternative explanation at the end that I DID. More than anything I gained an appreciation for da Vinci's painting and wish I could see him working. I would recommend this book to someone who had some background in fine art and loved France. less
