review 1: This book is a retelling of Rebecca. I loved that there was a lot of discussion about art but I disliked the same things as I disliked in Rebecca. I was not able to find any of the characters in the book particularly likable. The unnamed narrator has a naivety that is not believable. Having said that I did read the book quickly and it held my interest. The writing is actually very good and I would read more by this author.
review 2: I may have enjoyed this book more, had I read the print version. While the story had promise, I simply can't get past the dreadful narrator of the audio book, which I can't recommend for that reason. As for the story itself, rather than terming it an homage, I would instead say that it's loosely based on Daphne DuMaurier's cl
... moreassic, "Rebecca," and the tweaks made to the basic story weren't entirely successful. Again, my perception and appreciation of the story may have been affected by a narrator who made it difficult to listen to; I may get the print edition and see if I come away with a different take. less
