review 1: I enjoy just about any book that deals with language, and this one was good. It can be read straight through, or as a reference. It tracks the origins of just about every idiom you can think of, and explains the background of how the connection is made between how it was originally used and the way it is used now. The only thing I didn't like about this book was that I am suspicious (ok, cynical) of some of the purported origins, they sounded 'googled' to me, but that's just me.
