#sbookyreads readathon | wrap up

Hello friends, welcome to another wrap up!

I think I pretty well considering that this week was insanely packed with assignments and datelines. Actually, I sacrificed some studying and sleeping time for the readathon. oops.

Throughout the week, I’ve read 5 books. I only expected myself to read at most 3 books, and that’s pushing it but I managed five. woohoo I’m so satisfied. Read most of the books in a day which I’m really proud of. Every single time I have free time to read, I’ll always snatch the book up and read at much as I can within a sitting. (i read in class too. sorry prof!)

Didn’t get to read Illuminae for the ‘read a book with orange on the cover’ challenge and The Dream Thieves for the ‘read a book only after sun has set’ challenge. I seriously need to read Illuminae soon; I always say that I will but never do it. sorrryyyy

  • ROGUE WAVE – JENNIFER DONNELLY
  • // read a book of your choice //

    reviews: goodreads | blog

    rating: ★★★★

I enjoyed Rogue Wave far better than Deep Blue. Serafina was soooo much better now since she learned from her mistakes and she’s has a clearer mind of how things should be now. If she was the same, I don’t think I can handle reading the rest of the series anymore.

    2. THE RAVEN BOYS – MAGGIE STIEFVATER

// read a book with magic in it //

reviews: goodreads | blog (coming soon)

    rating: ★★★★★

This is my second time reading The Raven Boys. It came to me that I overlooked a lot of details the first time I read it so rereading was a definitely a good choice. I miss reading about the boys and Blue and Blue’s family, all the magic that’s in it and Cabeswater. However, I surely didn’t miss that blossoming relationship………. As much as I liked those two individually, I can’t ship them. Sorry.

    3. OF POSEIDON – ANNA BANKS

// read the first book in a series //

    reviews: goodreads | blog

    rating: ★★★★

Second mermaid novel in the readathon, except the mermaids don’t like to be called mermaids. Alright, whatever you say, Syrena.

I didn’t expect myself to like Of Poseidon as much as I did. This book has been in my tbr ever since 2014, it’s kinda sad that I just picked up this series but better late then never. The plot, things they do and say felt quite cliche but it was published in 2012, so I didn’t pay much attention to that. The characters were likeable except for one but she does get better half way through the book. Overall, I really liked it.

    4. STALKING JACK THE RIPPER – KERRI MANISCALCO

// read a book set in the past //

reviews: goodreads | blog (coming soon)

    rating: ★★★★★

A thriller novel is definitely not what I expected to put up in my favourites list in 2017. Yeah, it’s going up there for sure. The characters in the book made it for me. Also, the gore and the precision of all the forensic method is amazingly done. It can be cliche but it did sent shivers done my spine. I loved Audrey’s character and her bravery to defy social norms even in 1888. Thomas Creswell? swooooon

    5. DARK TIDE – JENNIFER DONNELLY

    // read a fantasy book //

    reviews:  blog

    rating: ★★★

Dark Tide was entertaining. There are some revelations that were insanely simplified and merely stated which provided no thrill making it disappointing. I didn’t find myself liking it much but I appreciated that the sisterhood and the friendships are the cores of the book.

That’s the end of my wrap up! My favourite read is either Stalking Jack the Ripper or The Raven Boys. After doing this readathon, I’m sure I will be participating in other Halloween related readathons in the future!
