review 1: An interesting quick read. This book allowed me to absorb its information and apply it my own notion on the situation. I wish there were exerts from happily married black couple(there may have been some, but if they were it was few and I can't remember them). It would have been more enjoyable to readers if there was more of that. The statistics that are in the book are sometime unbelievable, but he has sources to them. If they really disturb you I advise you to actually look up that information.
review 2: This book was very enlightening. Because of the vast amount of quantitative data used to support each claim he made, the book can be a bit heavy-handed at times. But, this is heavy-handedness is balanced by the stories he uses to illustrate these points. I a
... moreppreciate the fact that, unlike some other popular Black authors, he did not play a blame game when it comes to the failure of Black relationships. Each point was stated objectively and supported by empirical data. Don't let the title of the book put you off; Banks is NOT making a case that marriage is an institution supported by only White people. His case is, in fact, quite opposite. less
