review 1: Date: October 7th, 2014Author: Randall de Seve and Peter de SeveTitle: The Duchess of Whimsy: An Absolutely Delicious Fairy TalePlot: The Duchess of Whimsy is an extravagant and over-the-top royal who is adored by many, including the Earl of Norm, a normal and ordinary guy who has always been fond of her and has tried to get her attention and approval. Setting: Kingdom (Duchesses and Earls)Characters: Duchess of Whimsy, Earl of NormPoint-of-View: Third-Person Theme: Opposites do attract. Style: Fairy Tale; playful language for a simple storyCopyright: 2009Notes: I do not want to give any spoilers away, but I do think that the ending was quite modern and really appealing to a modern audience. It is a really cool story about how the guy wins the girl over with food, then his... more heart. Very cute story. I do feel that my female audience would find this story and book to be of interest.
review 2: The Duchess of Whimsy lives up to her name in many respects. She throws wild parties, has crazy friends, and is surrounded by exotic pets. The Earl of Norm also fits his name since he dresses in ordinary clothes and a typical pet, a dog. Despite the fact that they often move in the same circles, the Duchess sees little worth noting in the Earl of Norm until they bond over a grilled cheese sandwich and realize that they have more in common than they might have thought, and that first impressions can often be deceiving. Although the book's lesson is apparent almost from the opening lines, I still enjoyed it because it reminds readers to give even the most mundane of others a chance. I also enjoyed those color-filled illustrations that show just how average and whimsical its characters may be. Maybe part of the charm for me is the use of the word whimsical too--a word one rarely encounters in a children's picture book. less

It's amusing, a picture book about a manic pixie dream girl and the dull guy who loves her.

it was just so-so for me, liked the idea of book but plot solution just seemed too silly.
