Hey ya’ll!
I am excited to announce that I will be starting a couple buddy reads this month, and I hope you all will join in! Now, I don’t know how it usually works, but pretty much I’m marking each buddy read as a week long period to complete only one book.
The first buddy read will start this Monday, the 6th, and I hope to have finished the book and have a full review up by Sunday the 12th. This buddy read will be with Jamie @ The Kansan Reader, and the book we will be reading is:
Princess. Captive. Gladiator.Fallon is the daughter of a proud Celtic king, the sister of the legendary warrior Sorcha, and the sworn enemy of Julius Caesar.
When Fallon was a child, Caesar’s armies invaded her homeland, and her beloved sister was killed in battle.
Now, on the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Fallon is eager to follow in her sister’s footsteps and earn her place in the fearsome Cantii war band. She never gets the chance.
Fallon is captured and sold to an elite training school for female gladiators—owned by none other than Julius Caesar. In a cruel twist of fate, the man who destroyed Fallon’s family might be her only hope of survival.
Now Fallon must overcome vicious rivalries and deadly fights—in and out of the arena. And perhaps the most dangerous threat of all: her forbidden yet irresistible feelings for Cai, a young Roman soldier.
The second buddy read I will be doing will be with Cristina, and it will start Monday, November 13th and I plan to have my review up for it by Sunday, November 19th. The book we decided to read was:
This isn’t even close to a new release, but to our despair neither of us has read it yet so we decided to give it a go! This will be my first ever Holly Black book guys, it better not disappoint.
Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave. One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.
I’ve come up with an idea that if these buddy reads go well I might want to start participating in them every week, maybe even create a group on Goodreads if enough people start doing it. I think of these as a clever way to almost force myself to read books on my owned TBR, and it’s so much better when you have someone to talk to that actually knows what you’re talking about, and that you can fangirl to while reading. Of course, anyone is welcome to join, and message me on Goodreads if you end up writing a review, because I will happily link yours once my review is up!
If anyone would be interested in doing a buddy read in the future for any of these books, contact me on Goodreads and we can set it up:
Fair warning though, when I read a series I don’t just read the main books I read every novella as well.
