review 1: It's difficult to rate this book, as it's such a project and contains short works from many different writers and artists. Each story tells an interpretive tale based on a Tori Amos song, and the song's lyrics are printed alongside the story. I enjoyed some much more than others - some seemed to allow me to see the song a new way, and others I felt really missed the mark. Tori songs can have many interpretations, but some seemed just off somehow. But, as a huge Tori Amos fan, I enjoyed it a lot.
review 2: As an avid ear with feet, I was extremely excited to hear this was to be released, and received it as a Christmas present the same year. Originally I thought this would be one continuous story, but is in fact a great many stories, inspired by Tori Amos' songs,
... morefrom her career between 1988 and 2009. So not an easy book to review.Starting with a comic inspired by Flying Dutchman, a B-side of China, the song which also gave the book the title, and finishing with Pretty Good Year of Under the Pink, the journey taken is full of ups, downs, sudden shifts in direction, even in individual comics, and violent full stops. Much like Ms. Amos' career.A definite Must Read for any ears with feet. less
