The Book of Demons
review 1: A largely enjoyable, if occasionally confusing tale about a girl who gets sucked into an alternate reality where demons rule and humans are mythological. The main characters are Lord Demon Balthazar, who's told he needs a human in order to become the anointed Sultan in the wake of the death of his father. And Alexander, a human female with hidden powers, transported to the demon world, who becomes the object of Balthazars desires. There are a lot of characters in this book and it can get confusing as chapters jump around from scene to scene. One minute you're with Balthazar and Alex, the next with royal conspirators. The action can get a little bland here and there as it moves between conspiracies and violent clashes, while sparingly sprinkled with luke-warm moments of tend... moreerness between characters. There seems to be heavily influenced by Indian themes, which makes for a colourful and fragrant story. But the ending comes rather abruptly, in my opinion, however, it does set the scene nicely for the sequel.
review 2: Alex: I want to date that guy!Sam: talk to himAlex: I want the demon lord! But I want to go home! Balthazar: I Will use you, make love to you, then use you some more, girlAlex: I dont want to be at home! I want the demon lord! Balthazar: you are mine. This is the kind of novel that just gives you themain points of what is going on rather than actually EXPLAIN to you what is going on. The author seems to skip through events, not letting tge reader to take in everything that happen. I do not mind that (thats why the novel got 3 shining stars), but this structure was confusing at times. less

I liked the book and the characters. Not sure yet if I'll read number two.

I gave up because it was confusing and I couldn't follow the characters.

Not for me. About 50 pages in and I had to mark it DNF. ;(.
