This term has been used often times for “salvation experience” by most people (including myself) for years because;
“that was how we met it”
“that is what everybody says” etc.
But we hardly ever bothered to know that throughout the scriptures, it wasn’t used for salvation.
“To give your LIFE to the Lord” was only used ONCE in the Epistles
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 8:5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
This was used for service/commitment and never for salvation!
Salvation is to receive/God does the giving in Christ Jesus!

[KJV] John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own RECEIVED him not.
[KJV] John 1:12 But as many as RECIEVED HIM, to them GAVE HE POWER TO BECOME the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

[KJV] John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that HE GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

[KJV] Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had RECEIVED the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
[KJV] Acts 8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might RECIEVE the Holy Ghost:

[KJV] Romans 5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which RECIEVED abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
You RECIEVE a gift! There is NO exchange!
[KJV] Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[KJV] Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
[KJV] Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Our part is TO RECEIVE not give, it is not of works too!
It is on this unscriptural premise “I gave my life to Christ” that made one feel or think;
"I have not surrendered all..." "I gave my life but took it back..." "I gave my life but quickly borrowed it back..." "I gave my life but withdrew it..."But it is Jesus who gave to us and It’s ETERNAL!
[KJV] John 10:24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
[KJV] John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
[KJV] John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
[KJV] John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
[KJV] John 10:28 And I GIVE unto them ETERNAL LIFE; and they shall NEVER PERISH, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
[KJV] John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
You can’t perish with eternal life! GLORY!
[KJV] 1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
[KJV] 1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
[KJV] 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
We have eternal life now! At salvation God gives and we receive!
However in service we give (of all He gave us) and he recieves.
Blessings! ************************************* For further reading WHEN EXACTLY IS A PERSON SAVED?WHAT EXACTLY IS THE GOSPEL?[KJV] Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
[KJV] Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth THE LORD JESUS, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart THAT GOD HATH RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, thou shalt BE SAVED.
[KJV] Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
[KJV] 1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you THE GOSPEL which I preached unto you, which also YE HAVE RECEIVED, and wherein ye stand;
[KJV] 1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also YE ARE SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[KJV] 1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the scriptures;
[KJV] 1 Corinthians 15:4 And that HE WAS BURIED, and that HE ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the scriptures:
………..
[KJV] 1 Corinthians 15:11 Therefore whether it were I or they, SO WE PREACH, and SO YE BELIEVED.
Any Gospel that makes little or exclude (His death, burial and ressurection) is NOT THE Gospel!
HIS FINISHED WORK IS ETERNAL YOU MEAN?#1

[NIV] Hebrews 5:9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of ETERNAL SALVATION for all who obey him
[NLT] Hebrews 5:9 In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source OF ETERNAL SALVATION for all those who obey him.

[KJV] Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to SAVE THEM TO THE UTTERMOST that come unto God by him, seeing HE EVER LIVETH to make intercession for them.

[KJV] Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a SHADOW of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, CAN NEVER with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually MAKE the comers thereunto PERFECT.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thout wouldest not, BUT A BODY hast thou prepared me:
[KJV] Hebrews 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin THOU HAST HAD NO PLEASURE.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
[KJV] Hebrews 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. HE TAKETH AWAY THE FIRST, that he may ESTABLISH THE SECOND.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of THE BODY of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:11 And every priest STANDETH DAILY and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS:
[KJV] Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOR EVER, sat down on the right hand of God;
[KJV] Hebrews 10:13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:14 For by ONE OFFERING HE HATH PERFECTED FOREVER THEM THAT ARE SANCTIFIED.
[NIV] Hebrews 10:14 For by one sacrifice he has MADE PERFECT FOREVER those who are being made holy.
[NLT] Hebrews 10:14 For by that one offering he FOREVER MADE PERFECT those who are being made holy.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
[KJV] Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their HEARTS, and in their MINDS will I write them;
[KJV] Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I REMENBER NO MORE.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
[KJV] Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if ANY MAN BE IN CHRIST, he is a NEW creature: old things are passed away; behold, ALL THINGS ARE become NEW.
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath RECONCILED US to HIMSELF by JESUS CHRIST, and hath given to us the MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION;
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was IN CHRIST, RECONCILING THE WORLD unto himself, NOT IMPUTING their trespasses unto them; and hath COMMITTED unto us THE WORD OF RECONCILIATION.
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, BE YE RECONCILED to God.
[KJV] 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath MADE HIM TO BE SIN FOR US, who knew no sin; that we might be MADE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM.
