My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.

The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.

In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.

I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Louisiana Tech

Location: Ruston LA

Just about every Sunday I see a famous alum from Louisiana Tech on TV. That would be FOX NFL Analyst and Studio Host Terry Bradshaw. I love the story that Terry Bradshaw was the #2 QB at Louisiana Tech his first two years (1966-1967) at La. Tech. He played behind Phil “Roxie” Robertson from the hit TV show Duck Dynasty.

Phil decided not to play in 1968 to start his duck calling business Duck Commander.

Louisiana Tech University is a public research university in Ruston, LA that was founded in 1894. When it was founded in 1894 by Act 68 of the General Assembly, it was called the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana.

STEM is the school’s bread and butter (Mechanical engineering and Biology are its largest majors), but its College of Liberal Arts is actually the university’s biggest school.

The university serves about 12,000 students. There are approximately 255 acres on the main campus; a 472 acre demonstration farm, 94 acres of forest land in Webster parish, and 200 acres of forest land in Winn Parish; 170 acres in Lincoln Parish; five acres on Lake D’Arbonne; and 43.7 acres two miles west of the main campus. In addition, Tech leases four acres of farm and pasture land for the animal production units, and operates facilities at the Ruston Airport in support of the Professional Aviation program.
