review 1: The bare bones summary of this book is that the Seelie Queen, who is supposed to be above sordid couplings with humans, is seen with a human man by two fae sisters. The Queen exile them- minus their magic and youthful appearance- to separate cities- NY and Milwaukee, where they struggle to fit in. And after their initial settling in, each meets a waif who they befriend. Much of the story is told through letters the sisters write to each other, and some through the voices of the waifs or others. I read some of the reviews on the book, and they are heavily mixed- some loved it and some hated it. I enjoyed it, especially after the waifs came into the picture.
review 2: Jane Yolen and Midori Snyder are two of my favorite authors. This novel started out strong
... morely, but lost its momentum about 2/3 of the way through. Despite the semi-magical aspects of the world, everything seemed too tidy and coincidental. I didn't think there was enough detail for some of the various characters' backstories. It was a nice, quick read, but I had hoped it would be better than it was. less
