In the spirit of all things “new year” I’m jumping on board the #makenine train this year. I actually think it is a really good tool to focus down my twenty-something long list of patterns I want to make.
My aim is to make all nine patterns once (minimum) and hopefully duplicate them as well – I have a terrible habit of wanting to ‘make all the things’ and only using a pattern once before getting too excited and moving on to the next thing.
I have tried to think about each pattern I’ve chosen, and tried to imagine different versions that I would wear to try and get out of my make-once rut.
Ginger Jeans – Because I have always thought that Jeans are just something that can’t be done… until major #gingerjeans hashtag stalking started and WOW. I’m definitely going to make the other two pants patterns first though, gotta build up that confidence girrrl.
Coco Jacket – a little fitted jacket has been on my list FOREVER, even before I got back into sewing. I have little shoulders and short arms, so RTW jackets in this style never fit right and I look like I’m wearing a borrowed jacket! So I am pretty excited about muslin-ing the sh*t out of this one to get the fit juuuust right….. and I already have the fabric (thank you sale rack)
Cleo Dungarees (or overalls if you’re Aussie) – I just love these, they’re very me. I also know that my sister will love these, and we’re twins so no need to trace the pattern twice, winning!
Emery Dress – I’ve made three versions of the Emery before (and blogged one). I love how versatile it is. I’ve made one in casual cotton, dressy sateen, and I even made my wedding dress from the base of this pattern so… yeah it’s great. And yay for following my multiple version resolution!
Ultimate Trousers – Honestly, I’ve never sewn pants that aren’t sweats or Pj’s so I wanted to start somewhere non terrifying (sorry Ginger Jeans). I love this style of pant, I’ll wear them to death and in every colour so pretty keen to nail the fit of these and get over my trouser hurdle.
Ultimate Shift dress – I think this is such a good staple to build my wardrobe. I can do sleeveless and loose for our hot and muggy Gold Coast summers and then fitted and longer sleeves for winter (maybe even with tights for the 3 cold days we get a year haha)
Lander Pants – Mainly because I saw a pair in burnt orange on Instagram and I pretty much want to shamelessly copy them because wow (these were by @sewliberated I believe). Also, being 5′ it’s borderline impossible to buy RTW wide leg pants that fit! …and I’m tackling my fear of pants this year wahooo
Susie Blouse – No specific reason, I just really like it, and it has a intimidating collar with no stand… I like that.
Acacia Undies – I feel like these will be a great stash buster! Looking forward to hacking into my jersey stash… even if it’s mostly from my 2 year old boy, lots of safari animal themed undies for me? No complaints here!
