review 1: I loved this book, it's become my favorite besides Jamie & Katie's novella. Liam is trying to get his life back on track & get his game going as well after losing his wife a yr & a half ago. Noelle is just trying to get her life back. After losing her home she's been living in her car which has broken down again on the highway. Liam comes by seeing the flashing lights of it & stops when he realizes it's a woman at the car. Pictures of his wife's accident rush through his head as he stops to help & he's determined to get this woman away from her car until it can be fixed. Waiting in a parking lot just down the road they witness a truck crashing into her car & it exploding taking with it all her belongings. Now homeless Liam talks her into going home with him until she can f... moreigure things out, but what he doesn't expect is to find her to be his good luck charm when his game comes back to him. But as always things get in the way, Liam can't be as open as Noelle would like & Noelle leaves taking with her Liam's heart. She's taking odd jobs to make money & ends up working a catering job that is for Liam's charity & finally hearing how his wife died & that she was expecting at the time has thrown a curve at Noelle. Can Liam fully let her in? Can Noelle let Liam take care of her like he wants to? Is there a chance for them? This heart wrenching story is a definite recommend & I can't wait for the next installment to come out. Catherine Gayle tells this story so well that it captures you & doesn't let go. But make sure to have the Kleenex close at hand with this one you will need it.
review 2: Light the Lamp is the latest in the Portland Storm series, this time focusing on a newer player for the Portland Storm hockey team. Liam Kallen has recently been traded to the Storm from the Islanders and his game is suffering since the death of his beloved wife Liv. One fateful night, he meets Noelle Payne, a damsel in distress that he is determined to rescue. She is the epitome of a free spirit and is more than a little absent-minded when it comes to the more practical matters of life.I loved both of these characters, but there were many times when I wanted to reach into my Kindle and slap one or the other of them into reality. Liam was so keen on "saving" Noelle that he was smothering her, treating her like a wayward child. But it was hard to be angry with him because he so obviously cared and had reasons to be the way he was. Noelle seemed to think that he should be able to just magically understand who and what she was without really trying to talk about it and that drove me nuts. But she, too, so obviously cared that it was hard to be against her. In the end, these two are the perfect example of the yin and the yang in romance novels, each one supporting the other in opposite ways.Things to love... --The romance. I am not generally a straight-up, romance girl, but I like that the romance in this series comes with all of the issues that love really has, even if it is a little fast.Things I wanted more/less of... --More hockey. I love hockey, and there was a little less of it in this book!My Recommendation: This is a great addition to the Portland Storm series, but it should be read after the first two. The fourth book in the series, Delay of Game, is due out in August! I gave it 4.5 mugs. less
