Thirty-year-old Sandra Hurst decided that she was done taking abuse from her husband. She needed to divorce the bully; for the second time.
Sandra’s self-esteem was at an all-time low. Her biggest heartache, though, after fleeing her husband, was not the loss of her marriage, but the cool reception that she received from her mother. Her mother made it abundantly clear to her that she was not going to help Sandra with her second divorce. Sandra was also upset when her mother told her that they were moving to Florida. Sandra understood her mother’s reasoning for wanting to move. Sandra’s father had Alzheimer’s disease, and her mother wanted him to enjoy Florida, while he still could. But, the fact, that Sandra wasn’t welcome to join them, hurt. She needed her mother now more than ever.
I didn’t care for Sandra’s mother. She seemed too cold and uncaring towards her daughter. But, in reality, she helped Sandra. Because, Sandra had to find a way, to succeed, she was forced out of the victim role, and as a result found happiness. Sandra gained confidence in herself and was able to not only stand up to her estranged husband, but she also began making positive plans for her future. Although tough love is always painful, it is often harder for the parent. True love does what’s best for another, not what’s easier.
This story kept me captivated from the beginning until the very end. It’s well-written, engrossing and definitely worth your time.
