Hey Everybody!
Welcome to my 7th blog post where I’ll be wrapping up the books I read for #TheReadingQuest. I had an amazing time participating in this read-a-thon even though I didn’t do that great. If you haven’t heard of this read-a-thon #TheReadingQuest ran from August 13th-September 10th and was created by Readatmidnight . The unique thing about this read-a-thon is that it’s inspired by rpg and video game. You can choose from 4 characters The Knight, The Bard, The Mage, and The Rouge and you follow their path on the board to complete reading challenges. There are also side quests, you can level up your character and gain exp and health points.
I played as The Mage and completed all but one challenge, however I did one side quest. I did not calculate my points or anything, because I just did this for fun not for any of the prizes. I did have a lot of fun and I enjoyed all the books I read.
Alright let’s go over The Mage’s challenges!
1. A Book With A One Word Title. Perelandra By C.S. Lewis
I’ve talked about this book a lot, but if you’re new here you should know C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. This is the second book in C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy. This is an adult sci-fi trilogy follows Dr. Ransom after he is kidnapped and taken to the planet Malacandra or Mars. I loved the second book even more than I love the first. Ransom was lot smarter and comfortable this time. The first book was focused on escaping back to Earth. It was so interesting to see how Mars changed Ransom. This book was more of an adventure than survival. I like Perelandra/ Venus setting more than Mars. You can always count C.S. Lewis to throw in those not so subtle references to Christianity. This book was a little slow, but overall I loved it. I cannot wait to jump into book three That Hideous Strength. I gave Perelandra by C.S. Lewis a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
This was a reread for me and I also reread the first book in the series for a different challenge. This book was just as good as I remembered it was. Lyra and Will are just a perfect team. This book has so much action and picks up right where the first one ended. I’m going to talk about this more in my September wrap up. Pullman like Lewis also includes some not so subtle opinions about the Church as well. I loved this book so much and gave The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman 5 out of 5 stars.
3. A Book Set in A Different World The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
This is the first book in the His Dark Materials series and the The Subtle Knife is the second. I’ve talked about this book and you’ll hear even more in my September wrap up. I will say that Lyra is one of the strongest protagonist I’ve ever read. I absolutely loved rereading this book and can’t wait to continue my reread of the series. I gave The Golden Compass a 5 out of 5 starts
4. The First Book In A Series Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
I already talked about this in my August wrap up but i fell in love with this book. I love pirates and this was the first pirate book I ever read. This a very fun book with an awesome protagonist. I really loved the slow burn romance and can’t wait to see where it goes in book 2 Daughter of the Siren Queen. I highly recommend this book if you like Flame in the Mist by Renee Adhieh you’ll love this.
5. A Book Based On Mythology
This was the challenge that I failed. I’m honestly really proud of the other books I read, because I’ve been back at college for 2 weeks and read a lot. I was planning to read Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher but I only made it 59 pages in and the read-a-thon ends today and I won’t finish in time.
Side Quest: Open World: Read Whatever You Want Still Star-Crossed by Melinda Taub
I also talked about this book in my August Wrap up but I read this book because I watched the T.V. adaptation. I fell in love with the T.V. show and needed more and the book provided some much needed closure. This book follows Rosalina Capulet and Benvolio Montague after the events of Romeo & Juliet. I’m a big Shakespeare fan so the was like reading Romeo & Juliet fanfic for me. I loved it and gave Still Star-Crossed by Melina Taub a 5 out of 5 stars.
I had so much fun doing this unique read-a-thon and really did read some amazing book even with going back to school. I might take a short brake from fantasy after this read-a-thon though.
