2017 – A Year In Review

It’s 2018 now in Australia, and what better way to kick off the New Year than to look back over the past year? Well, maybe there could be a few better ways to do it. Like sleeping in a little (I’m so tired from staying up to watch the fireworks).

2017 went off to a great start for me. I turned 17 in early January, and had myself a Harry Potter themed party, to celebrate becoming an adult in the wizard world. I had treacle tart for a cake, watched the first three films, and then the next day went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them at a rooftop cinema.

Also had a super exciting moment when The Fold Rock received my fanmail! They shared photos of it all over their social medias, and I was screaming inside. It was so cool to see how much they appreciated it!

Shortly after that I found myself at university, studying my diploma. This was easily the most interesting thing that happened to me this year. Watching the students interact with one another as they tried to find friend groups, trying to see where I fitted in in the university, and of course the general experience of going to classes almost daily and having to study in a place that wasn’t home.

I ended up performing with the other Bachelor of Music students in their mid-year production, Life Is A Cabaret. I got to help with organizing the choreography for some of the show – the opening scene and the skipping scene were what I helped with. It was such a rewarding experience, I was – and still am  – honored to be/have been in it.

In June I ended up volunteering again at the Supanova again! I was CL for David Harewood, who was a lovely person. I also got to do some CL work for Colin Donnell when his CL went off for lunch. I got to meet lots of fabulous people, and you can read about the full experience here.

Uni started up a little while later, and I reconnected with a few friends who I hadn’t properly seen for a while. I also went to the Royal Show without any sort of parental vision for the first time –  which may sound ridiculous coming from a 17 year old, but it was quite a step forward for me.

After that I was busy with exams and studying. Eventually that all ended, and then I found myself auditioning for the bachelor of music course. Sadly I didn’t get offered a place, however I did a horrendous job at the audition due to some unfortunate happenings earlier in the week, so it was unexpected. I did, however, pass my Diploma course!

Christmas was quite, as it tends to be.

Yesterday – New Year’s Eve – was pretty quite too. It started out pretty laid back. Mum made brunch for everyone, and then we relaxed for a little while. Later in the day I went to see Moana, and then my family and I went out for dinner and some dancing.
When we got home we played our Lord of the Rings board game, I made everyone an Espreski, and then we watched the fireworks from the racecourse on our balcony. It was a great start to the New Year, and I have high hopes for what 2018 will bring!

I hope everyone had a fantastic 2017, and that 2018 is just as good, if not better!
