review 1: I collect owls. I love (good) children's books. I enjoy series where you can follow the lives of the characters as they face more trials and more excitements and learn and grow. So it was a no-brainer in the past to read and collect all the Guardians of Ga'Hoole books. Then my daughter told me there's a new one!This is the backstory of Ezylryb before he became known by that name, and told by him. So we meet Lyze as he hatches out of his egg and is born into a time of war. Through his growing-up moons he was fortunate in getting a new nest-maid snake who wasn't as tidy as the previous, but had a vivid imagination and told wonderful stories. More than anything, it was she who stimulated his mind towards greatness.This book tells about the war with a great deal of tens... moreion and excitement, and it tells of family and friends and moving from childhood to adulthood. The descriptions of flying are excellent, and the author has once again clearly done her research. The names of the creatures are also delightful. And Ezylryb's tone is great - right down to the pedantic little footnotes he puts into his memoir from time to time.A fine addition to my Ga'Hoole collection.
