My ReviewA young British couple are driving through France on holiday when they stop for gas. He runs in to pay, she stays in the car. When he returns her car door has been left open, but she’s not inside. No one ever sees her again.
Ten years later he’s engaged to be married; he’s happy, and his past is only a tiny part his life now. Until he comes home from work and finds his new wife-to-be is sitting on their sofa. She’s turning something over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. Something that would have no worth to anyone else, something only he and she would know about, because his wife is the sister of his missing first love.
As more and more questions are raised, their marriage becomes strained. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?
The story is told from alternating POV’s of the two main protagonists Finn and Layla, and jumps between the past and present. I thought this was genius because as the book develops we got a full insight into what really happened on that mysterious night ten years ago.
The character development in this novel is simply stunning. As well as the two protagonist, there are a handful offside characters that play important roles in the story. Throughout the book we learn more about each character as their personalities evolve. I truly applaud the author for this and felt it was a huge part of the reason that when I reached the end of the book I felt that all the I’s were dotted, all the T’s were crossed and no stone was left unturned.
I lost count of how many times I was convinced I had guessed the Who, What, Why & When, before quickly changing my mind. I was captivated from start to finish and was thrilled to discover that it did not hit that “stale middle” that a lot of books have a tendency to fall into.
As always Paris captures her audience from the very first chapter where we learn that something just isn’t quite right. Layla is missing, Finn has contacted and given a statement to the police, but has he told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
It is so captivating that I read the whole book in one day with Zero hours sleep. I will be honestly shocked if you can’t say the same once you get started. #FORGETSLEEP
If you enjoy physiological thrillers, mysteries, great characters & satisfying plots, then look no further than Bring Me Back. I know I will be reading the final published version once it is released to ensure I don’t miss a single thing!
If you haven’t had a chance to read BA Paris’ two previous released novels then I urge you to head over to Amazon or your local bookstore today and pick them up.
Behind Closed Doors is still my most recommended book to date, and The Breakdownonly cemented my love for the author even more.
Keep your eyes peeled for a special post right here on The Sunday Feeling on March 8th when “Bring Me Back” is set to be released.
*A huge thank you to BA Paris herself and the lovely people at HQ for sending me an ARC in exchange for a non biased and honest review.
