review 1: So dang glad I picked up the first book in this series out of curiosity while I was at the library. Now, I'm 3 books into it and they get better and better. I love that we learn more about Crowther and his family history in this story, and how some of the characters in previous books can still impact this one. Book #4 is waiting for me and I'm sure that one is going to be just as good. And I love the historical note the author inserts at the end - including that piques my interest even more and I enjoy seeing what she used and what she took poetic license with in developing the narrative.
review 2: Each book in this series gets even better, which is a rare thing in a series I think. Usually by the third book I am getting tired of the story lines, but Robertso
... moren does an excellent job of continuing the story with different arcs and characters and excitement. In this third installment, Crowther is called to his ancestral home of Keswick which he abandoned some 30 years ago after a family tragedy. We finally learn, along with Mrs. Westerman, Crowther's given name, family history, and connections to an Austrian man who travels to Keswick only to end up dead. Mrs. Westerman's son Stephen plays a nice side role in this installment and we see a larger focus on family values, traditions, responsibilities and loyalties. A nice reference back to Anatomy of Murder characters from London brings this story full circle in the end; you'll catch the hint if you read closely as to the connection. Never boring and with a nice nod to reality via Mrs. Westerman's distress that dead bodies keep turning up around them, Robertson again enchants and brings a faster pace to this novel, meaning I could not put it down! I can see PBS turning this into a wonderful miniseries. less
