review 1: Well after the third book wasn’t as good as the second one I hoped that this one will be better again. But to be honest I was a little bit disappointed. This book is less about David Hunter as forensic anthropologist but more about him as a person. First, it plays in the past, what has irritated me at the beginning of the book, because suddenly his wife and daughter played along. You see David Hunter as a family man and the beginnings of his new work. The whole story playes 8 years ago in Dartmoor. A serial killer named Monk raped young woman and buried them in the bog here. One of them was found the others have disappeared.Later, the story goes back to the present after the accident occurred of David’s wife and daughter. The story now goes on, connected to the last b... moreook. It starts with the fact that the serial killer escapes from prison and Sophie, who was a psychologic consultant 8 years ago in this case, ask him for help. Well, sometimes he makes a lot of mistakes again and seems not a wise but a naiv man. That was a little bit disappointing and annoying.The interactions between him and Sophie have also been very tiring sometimes. Terry is a pain and a rather unpleasant man. Regarding Monk creates the author a very good “monster figure”. His case is in the end quite tragically and once again you do not know until the end how the murder of this young women is.All in all, this was also a good and exciting book but can not compete with its predecessors. Too much sentimentality, which you do not want from such a series actually.
review 2: Zum Inhalt: Vor acht Jahren wird David Hunter nach Dartmoor gebeten, um bei einem Fall dort zu helfen. Jerome Monk, der im Gefängnis sitzt, soll vier Frauen getötet haben und nun sind sie auf der Suche nach der Leiche im Torf, doch die Suche erweist sich schwieriger als gedacht, sodass der verantworliche Leiter der Ermittlung jemanden zur Unterstützung hinzuzieht, was ungeahnte Folgen hat. Acht Jahre später holen David die Ereignisse aus der Vergangenheit ein und er trifft alte Bekannte wieder und alles entwickelt sich anders als gedacht.Meine Meinung: Die Geschichte ist spannend, aber sie unterscheidet sich ein wenig von den vorherigen Büchern, sobald die Geschichte in der Gegenwart spielt. Der naturwissenschaftliche Teil der Untersuchung, der mir in den vorherigen Büchern gut gefallen hat und eine zentrale Rolle bei den Ermittlungen spielte, findet kaum statt, was ich ein wenig schade finde. Natürlich ist man deswegen auch weniger in den Ermittlungen drin und entsprechend spannender ist die Auflösung der Geschichte, aber ich hätte gerne mehr davon gehabt. Dafür gab es aber überraschende Wendungen der Geschichte, vor allem das Ende hat das Buch noch gerettet.Gesamtfazit: Ein Fortsetzung, die leider etwas schwächer und anders ist als die bisherigen Bücher. less
