SPOILERS!!!
I was right!!! Matthew and the nanny are having an affair. Nina catches them when she goes to the house to show Rosie the feature article she has written about Rosie’s past life as a lap dancer. Nina sees them together in the garden, and at once she leaves. This is another secret she will have to keep as she tells herself Beth is not really her friend, and she will eventually find out.
Nina still feels unable to tell Jonathan about her feelings about everything. When he goes on and on about living in the country, her protests are vague, and he even takes her to see a house in a village, but Nina can’t bring herself to join in his excitement or tell him that she doesn’t want to live in the country. She continues keeping Ben’s auditions and advertisements a secret.
On Jonathan’s birthday they go out, and they feel awkward because this is something they haven’t really done before. Nina intends to tell him the truth about Ben’s advertisements, and feeling there is something worrying Nina, he is quite sweet about it. First, he thinks it is the house in the country, which he tells her has already been sold, and then he even says that if she is worried about the wedding, they could carry on as usual. Nina reassures him that neither of these things is the matter, but she is unable to tell her the reason of her awkwardness, which is her secrets. Then they go to the cinema, and before the film starts, there are trailers and there is Ben’s advertisement of shampoo. Nina later can’t concentrate on the film, and when it finishes, apparently, Jonathan hasn’t noticed anything, or so it seems.
Oh Nina, Nina, Nina!!! What is wrong with you? Why can’t you be honest with the father of your child? What are you afraid of?
