Week Three: Mystery Books
- The Guggenheim Mystery by Robin Stevens
Ted has Asperger’s Syndrome, which makes him extra perceptive when it comes to solving crimes. Following on from Siobhan Dowd’s The London Eye Mystery, Stevens has taken the late author’s notes to create this story, but each novel is a perfectly effective stand-alone.

- The Incredible Cabinet of Wonders by Joe Fullman
A fascinating look at some of the most amazing artefacts to be found in museums around the world. Each double spread has a different theme, and we are invited to be curious and seek inside the many flaps and discover objects such as a fake merman made of a stuffed monkey and fish, and a mechanical merman toy.

- The Street Beneath My Feet by Charlotte Guillian, illustrated by Yuval Zommer
Have you ever wondered what is under your feet? And how many of us have tried to dig down to Australia at some point? This beautiful concertina formatted book illustrates just how much amazing stuff is down there, in a usually hidden part of our planet.

- Goth Girl and the Sinister Symphony by Chris Riddell
We’re big fans of Chris Riddell’s whimsical series about Ada Goth and this, the fourth installment, is as brilliant as the rest. Lord Goth- Ada’s mysterious Father- is planning a music festival to be held in the grounds of the family’s stately home, Ghastly-Gorm Hall. Poor Ada has to try to make sure everything runs smoothly and as if she hasn’t got enough on her plate, her Grandmother arrives and decides it’s high time for her son to get married again…! Riddell’s distinctive illustrations match his quirky story perfectly and this, like the previous three, is packed full of literary, music and cultural references which adults will recognise, even if the children don’t!
