Book review: Hero, by Sarah Lean

Lean, Sarah.  Hero.  Katherine Tegen Books, 2014.  $16.99. ISBN 978-0-06-212238-4. 196 p. Gr. 3-7. P6Q7

More than anything Leo Biggs wants to be noticed.  He claims to have rescued a dog to get the attention he craves.  Unfortunately, being a fake hero is incredibly unsatisfying and Leo must find a way to remedy the situation.

Verdict: This is a gentle book.  The story is subtle and some of the comparisons and analogies may prove difficult for young or inexperienced readers to interpret.  The ending was not a satisfying conclusion to Leo’s predicament.
