review 1: Im going to keep this short and sweet. The book itself is FANTASTIC but the ending makes me so angry. im just sitting here crying! WHAT THE HECK. SO YOU MAKE US LOVE NIC THEN YOU KILL HIM, AFTER EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, ARON BECOMES AN OATHBREAKER AND STORMBREAKER IS GIVEN THE OPTION TO KILL HIM OR BE A TRAITOR?!?! ANNND, DARI HATES HIM FOREVER AND GOES CRAZY?!?! AAAAAAND AARON IS FORCED TO LEAVE THE ONLY HOME HE'S EVER KNOWN, EVERYONE HE LOVES AND NEVER COMES BACK?! FREAKING SERIOUSLY?! WHY WOULD ANYONE WRITE AN ENDING THIS SCREWED UP?! IM SOOOOOOO ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED! I assumed that Aron would find some kind of peace and happiness after the craphole his life was but no. WE ALL JUST GET FRIGGING SLAPPED IN THE FACE. THE END.
review 2: 2.5 stars, alas. Much l... moreike the first book, this one wasn't quite what I expected it to be. Unlike the first book, though, this one was more of a disappointment to me. I'll try to put into words why, but I can't promise clarity of thought and articulation.Mostly, I did not like the "romance". I'm a romantic and I like romance in stories, but I would've preferred this book to have zero romance instead of what was in it. It just didn't work for me. Part of it was, I couldn't ever see the all-encompassing appeal of Dari. I found her annoying in this book. She reminded me of the princess (I forget her name) in Cinda Williams Chima's Seven Realms series--and not at all in a good way. (I hesitate to use the word hate, but I definitely disliked that princess.)I had issues with the ending and some of the "moral debates" (I guess you could call it) that added way more angst than was, in my eyes, called for. I don't know. I wanted to like it. I certainly didn't hate it. But I was disappointed. less
