Book Review: Tiger’s Quest by Colleen Houck

Tiger’s Quest by Colleen Houck

“A mind with questions is a mind open to understanding.”

Synopsis

Back in Oregon, Kelsey tries to pick up the pieces of her life and push aside her feelings for Ren. Kelsey Hayes’s eighteenth summer was crazy. The kind of crazy nobody would ever believe.

Aside From battling immortal sea monkeys and trekking the jungles of India, she fell in love with Ren, a 300-year-old prince.

When danger suddenly forces Kelsey on another Indian quest, with Ren’s bad-boy brother, Kishan, the unlikely duo begins to question their true destiny. Ren’s life hangs in the balance—so does the truth within Kelsey’s heart.

Review

This is the second book in The Tiger Saga which is recommended to me by one of my best friends. When I read the first book last month, I enjoyed it but there are some elements I didn’t like so much. I felt pretty much the same way about this book. Since this is the second book, I will try to be vague.

In terms of plot, I enjoyed this one more than the previous book. I felt that this book had a stronger plot than the first one, since all the character and world building is done. I liked how the author weaved in different mythologies and cultures into this book, I thought that it was cool to explore and read about. I had a great time following our main characters as they go on this quest that they are on.

Are the characters my favourite? No, not really. I felt that the characters were not the strongest part of this story, especially Kelsey. I would love to see Kelsey having more of a character, to stand out from every book character I have ever read about. This book is definitely more plot-driven that character-driven, which is not a bad thing because it is an exciting plot. But even so, I would love to see more from the characters.

In my review of the first book, Tiger’s Curse, I talked about how the romance wasn’t my favourite. It still isn’t my favourite in this book. Though, I do feel that the romance is better written in this book than the previous one. And the romance is quite a big part of this story.

Aside from everything thing I have mentioned above, so far, I am enjoying this series. Overall, I think it’s a unique concept that is well written. If you are looking for a unique urban fantasy (I guess you can call it that) series that has quite the romance, I think you will really enjoy this series.
