Book Series I Can’t Wait To Continue vs Book Series I’m Putting Down

On a Tuesday I’d normally participate in Top 5 Tuesday. I absolutely love participating in the meme weekly but the chosen theme this week is series I want to start in 2018 and I had one small problem – I’m not planning on picking up any new series this year! I do, however, have a very long list of series I need to continue or finish so I thought I’d make my own little post that’s a spin off Bionic Book Worm’s Top 5 Tuesday topic (go and check out her blog and the other participants!). Today I’m going to be talking about the book series I can’t wait to pick up and dive into again, and a few that have been put down and might not be picked back up.

Series I Can’t Wait to Pick Up!

  • The Eldryn Chronicles

I read Trapped in Silver last year after being sent a copy to review. I didn’t know anything about the book so I dived straight in and was transported to a whole new world. It somewhat resembled Old England, except with a scary, unique take on demons, vampires, and shape shifters. The action was so fast-paced and I loved the teen characters like they were my own friends. The book left on such an exciting cliff hanger with so many questions I need answering. I’ll be picking up Lost in Darkness as soon as it’s released!

  • Flawed/Perfect

Flawed was gifted to me by a friend who knows my love for YA and dystopian fiction. I’d heard Cecelia Ahern’s name floating around but I hadn’t read any of her books, YA or adult.  I didn’t think this book was perfect but it was enjoyable and I was invested in the characters so I just have to find out what happens to them. I hope my paperback pre-order arrives soon! Check out my Flawed review if you’re curious.

  • The Witches of the Glass Castle/ The Witches of the Dark Power

I discovered Gabriella Lepore last year after being sent two of her books to review by a very kind publisher on a review scheme. I particularly adored The Witches of the Glass Castle and their X-Men style house for young and new witches to discover their powers. I haven’t really read any books about witches besides Harry Potter so this was fresh and exciting for me and I really loved it. I can’t wait to pick up this sequel, and I’ll be continuing Blackheath too, which I also loved!

Book Series I’ll Be Putting Down

  • The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner was the first book I finished in 2017  and the first ever review on my blog, and I did enjoy it but I just wasn’t compelled to continue the series. I continually thought about reading more, especially since I loved the films so much and want to watch those, but it didn’t happen. I’m not saying never to The Scorch Trials or The Death Cure but I’m putting down this series for now.

  • Abhorsen

I loved Sabriel when I first read it, getting so involved with this fantasy story that differed to books I would normally choose. Lirael was also an interesting book but I preferred one character’s story to the other, which always seems to happen to me with dual narrative stories. I guess it put me off slightly and I never bothered to finish the series, so that’s one I’ll be putting down in 2018, too.

Bonus – A Series I Will Be Starting in 2018!

  • The Seafarer’s Kiss

So I guess I was telling a slight fib when I started this post, as I am starting a new series thsi year. I didn’t plan to commit myself to a series when I first added The Seafarer’s Kiss to my Christmas list and my 2018 TBR but it turns out Julie Ember is writing a sequel to this book, so I’ve unknowingly committed myself to a series this year! I can’t wait for this LGBT The Little Mermaid retelling and I’m sure I’ll love its sequel just as much.

It’s a huge year so sequels for me as I have so many on my 2018 TBR! As with all books, some I’ve fallen in love with and others haven’t quite made that impression in  my heart. What series would you recommend?

Happy reading!
