review 1: Seemed to borrow a lot from Stephen King's 11/22/63-- it's got a time-travel node, true crime, and lots of nostalgia for USAmerican past. I really liked 11/22/63. The Shining Girls also fits in with books about serial killers-- I'd recommend this for a streak of serial reading (haha) starting with Cormac McCarthy's Child of God and maybe ending with Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. Throw the Shining Girls in the mix.
review 2: A good book with an interesting concept. Every chapter jumps around through time so it can be a bit hard to keep track of. My main problem with the book is lack of answers. where did the house come from? How does it work? What happened at the end? Did the dead killer end up in the right time period? How were the cops at the right house
... more in the end? So many questions, hopefully book club will have some answers. less
