review 1: Most suspense-horror novels, particularly those in the "haunted house" genre, portray the protagonist's surroundings as evil. The hero/ine becomes increasingly trapped in a bad place, helpless to get out, spurned by the usual familial sources of love and comfort, and menaced by a vague mounting horror. A few others, like The Shining, portray the protagonist as the problem - unhinged, unbalanced, hostile, and dangerous to their family. Bedbugs manages to thread the needle between both options. You're never sure how much of the main character's problems are in her head, how much is real and physical, and how much is real but supernatural. You're also never sure whether other people are shutting her out, or she's just paranoid, or she's actively driving them away. All I... more know is this was a chillingly relatable read and a terrific horror story. The ending was a bit of a letdown, but the building creep leading up to it was well worth it.
review 2: Honestly, not a bad book. It was a quick read, and was good at building suspense. However, the character of Susan was just annoying to me, and very unlikable. She became extremely unbearable up until the very end. *slight spoilers* When she would put reading the bedbug book before feeding her child, or when she slept on the couch instead of in bed, I found myself rolling my eyes. I know it was to show she was becoming obsessed with the bugs and finding out what is going on, but it was a bit TOO much obsessing for a person who was sane for half of the book. Maybe it's just how her character was written, but I really didn't care at all about her until the very end. Because of that, it was a struggle to get through the book at times, but in the end, I did enjoy it. less

Did anyone else feel bugs on themselves while reading this page turner?

Entertaining read, but I thought the last policemen trilogy was better.
