As it is the festival season, I wanted to make my Friday story time a Christmas themed one. After browsing through a lot of Christmas related books I zeroed the book from Pete the cat series. I heard a lot about this series but never got a chance to read any book. So when I got this book ” Pete the cat saves Christmas ” I felt it was a perfect book for my this week storytime theme.
This book is a wonderful holiday book for the little ones. The Santa who is supposed to deliver the gifts to everyone is sick and needs help. He asks Pete the cat to deliver the gifts. Though it was a tough job for Pete he makes sure he delivers the gifts to everyone and saves the Christmas.
This book has a great message to share with the kids. Give your best no matter what. The illustrations were also pretty good which created the perfect Christmas scene on every page.
This week I had around 7 kids attending the story session. I was little worried about how to manage the kids but to my surprise, they were cooperative. As soon as I showed them the book I was about to read, they all shouted hey it’s Pete the cat book.
After the story session, it is the time a simple Christmas activity. For this activity, I needed to make a paper Christmas tree beforehand. The supplies needed to make the tree are:-
- Green chart
- pencil
- Scissors
- ribbon
- hot glue
- star-shaped paper
- Cardboard
- Pushpins
Procedure:-
- Draw a huge Christmas tree on the green chart and carefully cut it with a help of scissors.
- Cut a rectangle shaped cardboard to make it the trunk of the tree.
- Glue the ribbon to the tree randomly using a hot glue.
- Fix this tree on the wall using pushpins.
I gave each kid one Christmas ornament coloring sheets which I got it from my local library to do the coloring with crayons.
Once coloring is done, I cut the best ornament from each one sheet. I made the kids stick the ornaments on the Christmas tree using a tape.
Once the activity was done we ended our day by singing Jingle Bell’s song.
