review 1: Natchez Burning is a wonderful novel about the Civil Rights Movement, the Ku Klux Klan and being black and living in Mississippi in the 1960's. Fast forward to present time and the murder of a black nurse and the determination of a reporter to tell about horrific events from the past. It is a long book, over 700 pages, but well worth the time. There are many characters, some just awful people and others just plain good people. I look forward to the Bone Tree and hope some of my questions will be answered.
review 2: Obviously, Greg Iles is a writer of some esteem. I haven't read any of his other books, because I seldom read books about crime, courtroom dramas, or murder mysteries. I tired myself out of the genre a decade ago and haven't looked back. This is
... morean exceptional, though overly long story of racial killings from the sixties and who was responsible. Mr. Iles is an extrodinary storyteller and this story is hard to put down, fast-paced, multi-faceted, great characters... I just got tired of it way before it ended. There are two more books coming in this trilogy. I will not be reading them, simply because I am tired of all the characters and drama. Great book- not for me. less
