A warning to all of you non-spoiler people! This is the fifth book in The Mortal Instruments series. If you do not want to be spoiled you might want to leave. Go read this book!
I rate this book 5/5 stars! This is one of my favorite books in the series. I even picked up on more reading for a second time. Cassie Clare has done it again. This book amazed me, had me laughing, and made me angry. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration. Molly Quinn did an amazing job! She kept me engaged throughout the whole book.
The Demon Lilith has been destroyed and Jace freed from captivity. But when the Shadowhunters arrive, they find only blood and broken glass: Jace, the boy Clary loves, and Sebastian, the brother Clary hates, have disappeared.
The Clave’s magic cannot locate either boy, but Jace can’t stay away fro Clary. When they meet again, Clary is horrified to discover Lilith’s magic has bound Jace together with Sebastian, and Jace has become a servant of evil.
The Clave is out to eradicate Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle scheme and bargain to save Jace, but Clary is utterly alone, playing a dangerous game. If she loses- her life- and Jace’s soul- are forfeit. She’d do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?
So we are following Clary on her journey to save Jace from Sebastian. She has to pretend to be on Sebastian’s side. I enjoyed the dialogue between Clary and Sebastian. Especially when she calls him out by his full name. Of course we had some sassy Jace moments. My favorite quote from Jace is, “Missing one stunningly attractive teenage boy. Answers to ‘Jace’ or ‘Hot Stuff.'” This is from when Jace and Sebastian do that late night visit to Clary. The whole traveling apartment was an interesting thing to read about. When Jace temporarily become himself again was my favorite scene in book. It was so beautifully written!
Magnus and Alec are having some relationship issues all because of Camille. Alec’s meetings with Camille were my least favorite scenes in the book. Magnus and Alec are one of favorite couples so I hate this. After the visit from Jace and Sebastian, Magnus lets Jocelyn and Clary stay at his place. Everyone ends up staying there. That leads to some of Magnus’s best moments.
Isabelle and Simon have some of the sweetest and awkward scenes. My favorite is when Simon ends up telling Izzy the whole plot of Star Wars as a bedtime story. When they finally connect, you know Izzy loves Simon.
Again, I highly suggest you read this book if you want to continue on with the series.
