review 1: 3.75 stars. Bob Tidey is a detective sergeant in Ireland who gets called in to investigate a homicide of a corrupt banker which is linked to a previous homicide he worked. Meanwhile Vincent Naylor, recently out of prison for an aggravated assault, sets up a robbery of an armored car with his brother and two other men. Eventually these stories come together and the book really picks up the pace about 2/3 of the through. Tidey is an old school detective, and the end can justify the means kind of guy when necessary. This kind of thing usually drives me crazy, but Tidey has many good characteristics that I was willing to go with him and would read more. All in all, an enjoyable book.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. It had a great sense of place within I
... morereland and Kerrigan had some wonderful characters. Tidey the detective was likable as a protagonist and I felt that the portrayal of the antagonist in Vincent Naylor was well done. So much so that there was a sense of sympathy for him. This probably came from Kerrigan’s writing of grief that Naylor goes through. There are some tough subjects covered within the book and they are covered well without making readers feel uncomfortable or preached to. I will definitely read Kerrigan again. less
