Development of Vertebrate Experiment

Hello readers,

If you are planning to do development experiment on  zebrafish, Danio Rerio. This writing would tell you when you should observed zebrafish eggs. Since this experiment more on the development, you only need to take care of your zebrafishes until larva.

Egg at 0 hours. Zygote period because it only have 1 cell.
  • 15th mins: Cleavage
2 cells divided until 64 cells (morula).
  • 2.5th hour: Blastula

  • 5th hour: Gastrula

  • 10th hour: Segmentation
At early period, the tail, notochord, pharyngeal arch primodial, neuromeres and somites began to form. This was observed at end period.
  • 24th hour (next day): Pharyngula
The body axis started to be straightened.
  • 48th hour (next two day): Hatching
Zoom out version of our larvae. Beautiful larva hatched from egg. This is zoom in version using microscope.

What should we improve?

  • Need to observed the at specific time. We miss out the chance to observed the early period of segmentation.
  • Plan ahead to see when you should watch the egg. Started from the fertilization of egg.
  • I hope you (you might be my juniors) can do a better job than us although this experiment need to be planned without any instruction. You can choose other vertebrates also, but we choose zebrafish because it has a well-defined embryological staging series.

(For invertebrate development, we choose mosquito.)

    Have a nice days ahead!
