Dear Opportunist,

You thought you could take him from me, but you lost. Now, that he’s mine I’ll do anything to keep him. Do you doubt me? I have everything that was supposed to be yours. In case you were wondering; he doesn’t ever think about you anymore. I won’t let him go….ever.

Dirty Red

Leah Smith finally has everything she has ever wanted. Except she doesn’t. Her marriage feels more like a loan than a lifelong commitment, and the image she has worked so hard to build is fraying before her eyes. With a new role and a past full of secrets, Leah must decide how far she is willing to go to keep what she has stolen.

Dirty Red follows the events before, after, and during The Opportunist. We see Leah and Caleb’s marriage after she gives birth to their daughter, Estella, we see the things that make Leah who she is as an adult, and we learn some hard truths from her childhood.

If there is one thing I know, it’s that Tarryn Fisher is the greatest at writing characters I want to slap. And I want to slap Leah so hard, I might lose my hand.

I feel like this was very well written, better than The Opportunist. There was more description, things followed a more set path, and things from the first book made more sense as we saw some things conclude, leaving all the remaining questions with answers.

What I Loved:

  • That I still dislike Leah. I’m not sure if there was goal to make me a Leah fan with this book but it didn’t work. I still like that I do not like her as a character as much as I wouldn’t like her as a person. This book made her more realistic, more like someone I would meet in my life, at my job, and just absolutely mock the moment they left me.
  • The writing was better. It told a better story.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • I think I’ve already mentioned the main character but that was a given.

To be honest, I missed Olivia.

Now on to book three, Thief.
