Discussion: Book Series That Should be Longer

I’m sure everyone here has had the experience of finishing a book series and still wanting more. Even if the ending is satisfying, it’s hard to let that world go! However, sometimes, the ending just isn’t satisfying at all and you know that there is so much more room in that world for more stories. The series I’m listing here are ones where the ending didn’t satisfy me, and I know there is realistically room for more. Of course, I may want 80 more Bloodlines books, but I know that’s just not realistic and I was satisfied with the ending. These series left me hanging and desperate for more books that sadly aren’t coming:

The Archived by Victoria Schwab: I know a lot of factors went into this one that were out of Victoria’s control, but I will always be sad that the series was “cancelled.” I know Victoria plans to write/release a third book at some point, but I’ve been waiting for it for years! If only this series had gotten more recognition before it was too late, it’s so fun and pure and one of my favorites!

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro: The last book in this trilogy isn’t even out yet, but I already feel cheated that it’s only going to be three books. I love the characters and the writing style, these books are so fun and there is so much room to expand in this world with these characters. There are plenty of Sherlock Holmes stories for Brittany Cavallaro to draw inspiration from, so theoretically she COULD continue on for a while, but right now it’s unfortunately only slated to be a trilogy. I already need more Charlotte and Jamie!

The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: I am always going to be bitter about this one. This is such an amazing, fun, and criminally underrated series. Even though it was only ever going to be two books, the author must have hoped that the second book would sell well so she could write a third, and ended the second book on a quasi-cliffhanger. And now we will never get a third book to find out what happens or get a proper conclusion. At least with the Archived books there wasn’t a cliffhanger or anything, but I was left to Suffer after finishing The Long Game and realizing that there wasn’t going to be a third book. I’m so salty! I love these books and I would trade my soul for a third book, honestly.

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken: I didn’t necessarily love these books, I thought they were pretty dense and slow, but the world building was great and I honestly think it was a bit under-utilized. The author could have done so much more with the time-travelling, and it would have been so cool! This series definitely could have been expanded upon way more than 2 books.

School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins: This one was originally going to be the start of a new spin-off from the Hex Hall series I believe, but I guess it never took off. I enjoyed the Hex Hall series, but I really loved School Spirits! I was so sad when Rachel said there wouldn’t be any more books and that it would just be a standalone spin-off.

I’m probably forgetting a few, but those are some book series that I think genuinely could be expanded upon! What book series do you all think could have been longer?? Let me know down below!

Happy reading,

Sara
