Hi, friends!
To close out this month, I want to share an interview I had with one of my best friends, Donavon, who has proclaimed himself as my “prettiest friend.” *Eyeroll*
I’ve know Donavon for almost 10 years now. To be honest, I have no idea how we’ve been friends for this long… Considering we’re constantly driving each other crazy. Ha! Donavon has been there for me through thick and thin and has been one of the most supportive people I’ve ever met. In fact, it’s because of Donavon’s love and support of my dreams that I was able to start this blog.
If there’s one thing I can tell you about Donavon, it’s that he’s persistent and hardworking. Throughout his life he’s faced many obstacles that would have served as a breaking point for someone else, but each time, he overcame it all. I admire how much he has grown and learned over the years.
But that’s enough about what I think about him, I want you to see how awesome (…but maybe more weird and strange) he is through his own words.
What are your favorite colors and why?
Red, because red or dead.
What celebrity would you switch places with for a day? Why?
Honestly never really thought of this. There’s a bunch, tbh. If I had to choose one though, it would definitely be George Lucas. I would like to see what else he thought up for the Star Wars Universe.
If you could live anywhere besides where you live now, where would you live and why?
Obviously Japan, duhhh. Cars that I love, food that I love, and honestly it seems like one of the most beautiful places on earth. Both in landscape and just the general attitude and way that their people live. I could definitely go on and on about why I would live in Japan, but I’ll keep it at that. Haha.
What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?
Travel, I’ve been stuck on this rock for most of my life and only left a handful of times. I could literally count on one hand, haha. But I’d love to travel the world and learn more about the people I share it with.
If you could only keep up to five physical possessions you have and get rid of everything else, what would you keep?
The house I grew up in, the photo albums my family has, and the objects I’ve kept over the years that remind of the good times I’ve had with the people that have been in my life.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I can’t swim… Very well, at least. Only to save my life, haha.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Stop trying to impress others, do things for you and your happiness. No one will ever make a decision for you, because even if they demand you or judge you, it was YOUR choice.
What do you consider to be the most weird or unique thing about yourself?
Everything about me is weird, haha. But if I had to choose one thing I think is weird about me, it’s probably that I act a lot dumber than I really am.
If you only had one more year to live, what would you want to achieve?
The list could go on and on, but definitely spend time with family and the people I care about. You may not be on this world forever, but the memories others have of you will keep you alive.
What was the most important life lesson you’ve learned so far?
That my life is mines and no one else’s. Anyone can tell you what to do or how to do things, but you make the choices and have to live with the rewards or consequences.
What do you want others to remember about you when you’re gone?
Hopefully the good stuff, haha. I’ve done a lot of wrong to people in my life, but hopefully by the time I go, I’ll have done enough good elsewhere that helps negate at least some of those things.
What 3 questions do you wish you had the answers to?
Where are the best places to eat in the world?
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?
*BONUS QUESTION: Why aren’t male ants called “Unks?”*
Who has been there for you through all (or most) of life’s trials and tribulations?
My family, even when times were rough and I did a lot of things I shouldn’t have. They’ve always had my back and believed that I could be a better person.
If some of his answers don’t explain why I think he’s weird, I don’t think you’ll ever understand his humor. I love this guy and I can’t wait to see how our friendship grows in the years to come.
