review 1: This wasn't what I was expecting. Initially I found the writing style very difficult to get on with, the frequent time checks seemed to break the story up too much and I struggled to get to grips with who was who and how they were connected. As the book moved along I found both easier to manage. It was a good story, I felt a couple of the characters were a little one dimensional but all in all an enjoyable read and I would read more by this author.
review 2: 2.5 stars. Compared to Haynes previously published novels, this one was disappointing in that it mires readers with lots of dull police procedure details and takes too long to get to the bottom of things. ... moreow that Haynes is a former police intelligence analyst and that background definitely shows in her writing but I prefer the more suspenseful style that she used in Human Remains and Into the Darkest Corner. I believe this was the first book that Haynes wrote even though it was published after her other books so I believe she has become a much better mystery writer and I look forward to reading other books by her. less

Decent detective novel. Rushed the ending I thought, no wrapping up of Nigel or Taryn.
This was a great book! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys detective novels!
Not one of my favorites by this author but still a bit suspenseful.
Great book and the first of three!
Over all a good read.
