review 1: Great and unusual plot, but so many idiosyncrasies that I couldn't immerse myself in it (e.g. when she gazed upon a barefoot urchin and had a sudden desire to open her arms and hold him, she described it as thus: "He burrowed in her arms, and his hair smelled of salt and dirt. This had to be real, this living child, this warmth, the softness of his T-shirt, his SHOES squeaking on the floor" [SHOES? WHAT shoes??]). Honestly, that was near the beginning of the book, and it bothered me for many pages after!
review 2: Starter House is a sensational debut novel by Sonja Condit. Lacey and her husband are expecting their first child. Her husband has recently graduated from law school. They just purchased their dream home, a house that called to Lacey, a house where sh
... moree saw images of their future children as she stood in the decomposing entryway. Carpenters and painters revived the house the couple moved in, but they are not alone. A young boy always seems to be hanging around outside and then Lacey catches him the house. He reminds her of the noisy boys she taught in her fourth grade. Lacey learns from the neighbors that she is living in the "murder house," where no baby has survived since 1972. But the house chose her. She saw her one day children. Can she convince the ghost boy to spare her baby or will Lacey be like the other mothers the house has destroyed. This is a wonderful read for those who love a little chill, mystery, and suspense. less
