review 1: One star off for not giving an accurate definition of gonzo porn. Otherwise, I completely disagree with the criticisms from other readers. I thought her comparisons to racist media were particularly powerful. Why is it considered normal to be aroused by calling women degrading names and abusing them physically? We're not talking about just sexy scenes. This book is talking about the hardcore and abusive porn that is becoming increasingly mainstream.
review 2: She has some good points but her use of scare tactics and random unsourced Internet comments is really annoying. Also, her writing is so bad I can't believe it. Her lack of praxis is also very irritrating. Yes, porn is antifeminist and capitalist and some sex workers are abused but her only solution is the
... more nebulous "dismantling of the patriarchy" and I believe that her theories would benefit from practical applications, moreso because she isn't discovering a new philosophical concept here, she's just quoting other people's. It reads like a review of the literature and not like the seminal work of one of the most important New Leftists of the West, or whatever she is.Badly written, badly edited, badly researched, but if you weren't raised on the internet, it's still important to know that the majority of porn is awful. less

Strong. An unflinching perspective on the creeping pornographization of our media.

Gail Dines does make a lot of good points, but I think it is biased.
