Everything that makes New Moon a bad movie

The Twilight Saga has become such a popular series in the past ten years that it isn’t really necessary to even clarify what it’s about. But, in case you’ve been living under a rock, just know that Twilight narrates the story of Bella Swan, a teenage girl that moves to Forks, Washington, and falls in love with a vampire who shines in the sun.

This four-book series is one of the most popular young adult franchises ever, making billions of dollars off of the books as well as the movies. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner return to the big screen to star in the most boring sequel ever: New Moon.

Although Stephenie Meyer’s New Moon was definitely the least engaging book in the series, it had some enjoyable scenes. In the movie, however, we get two hours of Bella narrating her story and sulking about how much her life sucks. The movie would’ve definitely been better if director Chris Weitz had decided to use this opportunity to talk about how a breakup can cause depression…but he didn’t.

The plot of the movie decides on a whim that Edward can appear as a mist to Bella to warn her of danger. Why did this never happen before in their–roughly–eight-month-long relationship? Why doesn’t it ever happen after this movie? Why can€™’t Edward do this on a regular basis? He could just show up whenever and have conversations about whatever it is that teenage girls and hundred-year-old vampires talk about.

Long story short, New Moon portrays excruciatingly lazy storytelling, dreadful performances (ahem…Kristen), limp direction and a core storyline that is both insipid and somewhat disturbing. Although these are features that were also present in the book, seeing them on the big screen makes New Moon even more disappointing.
